Privacy Policy

Last updated: 17/07/2025

Hi, I'm Steve — the counsellor behind Sitting with Steve: Counselling and Wellbeing. I’m committed to respecting your privacy and keeping your information safe. This policy explains what personal data I collect, why I collect it, and how I keep it protected.

1. Who I Am

Sitting with Steve is a private counselling service run solely by me, Steve Wickenden. I’m a qualified counsellor registered with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), and I take your confidentiality and privacy seriously.

3. How I Use Your Information

  • Respond to your enquiries

  • Arrange and manage appointments

  • Provide counselling sessions

  • Keep records in line with professional and legal standards

I don’t use your data for marketing, and I’ll never sell or share it with third parties for advertising purposes.

2. What Information I Collect

When you get in touch via my website, email, or phone, I may collect:

  • Your name

  • Contact details (email, phone number)

  • Brief details about why you're reaching out

  • Any other information you choose to share

If you become a client, I will also collect some additional personal information during the course of our sessions, as part of providing a professional service.

4. How Your Information Is Stored

Any personal data I collect is stored securely, whether digitally (with password protection and encryption where appropriate) or in paper form (kept in a locked space). I retain records in accordance with professional guidelines and legal requirements, typically for up to 7 years after your final session.

5. Confidentiality in Counselling

Everything you share in counselling is treated with respect and confidentiality. There are a few rare exceptions to this — for example, if I’m concerned about your safety or someone else’s, or if required by law — and I’ll always aim to speak with you about this first, wherever possible.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the information I hold about you

  • Ask for corrections if anything is inaccurate

  • Request that I delete your information (subject to legal and professional guidelines)

  • Complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you have concerns about how your data is handled

7. Cookies and Website Analytics

My website may use cookies or basic analytics tools to understand how people use the site. This helps me make improvements, but no personally identifying information is collected unless you fill in a contact form.
